Snacks are the downfall of many an aspiring low-fat enthusiast. Chips, cookies, most candies, commercial popcorn, and most other snack foods are a one-way ticket to high-fat trouble. But today, low-fat eaters can choose dozens of convenient, tasty, creamy, crunchy, satisfying low-fat snacks:
Fresh fruit, stewed fruit, or canned fruit (but steer clear of ultra sugary heavy syrup).
Air-popped popcorn. Instead of butter, add black pepper, or oregano, or a little sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese.
Bagels, bread, nonfat crackers, or rice cakes with jam or preserves.
Chilled vegetable salad. Steam the veggies and then add soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, orange juice or some other low-fat marinade and refrigerate.
Fat-free tortilla chips with salsa.
Fat-free, low-salt pretzels.
A bowl of Corn Flakes with nonfat milk or yogurt.
Frozen bananas. Peel bananas, insert popsicle sticks and freeze.
Nonfat yogurt. Add fresh fruit, or for crunch, try Grape Nuts cereal which is fat free.
Nonfat cottage cheese.
Nonfat frozen yogurt.
